Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Working with Thai Authorities to Investigate Organ Trafficking Claims

PHNOM PENH: The Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chum Suntory, has told reporters that there is no human organ trafficking in Cambodia.

This statement was made in response to a story published by the Thai Examiner (a news website based in Thailand) on Saturday, 12 March, about a Thai woman who claimed she faced the risk of organ trafficking in Cambodia.

Foreign Ministery Spokesman, Chum Suntory, states that "authorities in Sihanoukville have already denied this baseless claim."

He further confirmed that the Cambodian Embassy in Thailand has been in contact with Thai authorities to confirm more information and investigate this case, but as of Sunday, 13 March, there has been no further details found about the case and this type of illegal activity in Cambodia.

In February, a Chinese man similarly claimed to have been detained in Sihanoukville as a blood-harvesting slave, but after local authorities conducted an investigation, it was found that this story was fabricated by the man and a group of others, to avoid facing legal liability after illegally crossing the border into Cambodia.
